As I mentioned in the previous post, last week I was in the beautiful mother city, Cape Town. While I was there with my family, we were exploring Long Street and somewhere along the line, ended up in the African Market. Let me just say – I absolutely adored it, from the bracelets to the art to the clothes – I was smitten.
While we were on Long Street, though, we stumbled upon The African Music Store – an amazing shop that stocked everything from Mi Casa, AKA and Freshly Ground to Asa, Hugh Masekela and Fela Kuti. At the entrance of the shop, there was a wonderful mosaic saying, “Welcome To Africa”, and as we entered, the musical stylings of Bandorandoro as well as the trinkets in the shop, truly made it feel African.
Africa is my home; I was born in Zimbabwe, raised in South Africa but always keeping in touch with my Nigerian heritage. Africa is a place of diversity, triumph, music, food, beauty, fashion- and the list goes on. I am proud to be an African 🙂
