On Thursday the 26th of March 2015, Spree hosted their Autumn Winter 2015 showcase event at The Cape Town Club, and I was lucky enough to win a ticket to this event from the lovely Malibongwe Tyilo from the Skattie, What Are You Wearing? blog.
It was basically as shmancy an event as you can imagine – champagne and canapé greetings with a magazine that had the evening’s outfit showcases, and let’s not forget the mini orchestras serenading you across three floors of fashion, as well as live-Instagram printing that just upped the ante on event shmanciness. On the ground floor was the Spree Boutique and The Collective by Spree; the first floor held Spree Women and the top floor was for the boys – Spree Men.
On each floor, models stood in designer clothes ranging from Head Honcho to Gavin Rajah and I actually liked this approach as opposed to just a 15 minute runway show because you got to examine the clothes as much as you want and alternate between floors at will. I really loved Habits’ colour scheme and styling (basically, anything with a coat had me sold for the evening).
I adored the Spree Women section because each little model collective was wearing a trend I can see myself in, and best believe when I get my money right, all those capes, coats and fur waistcoats will be mine. The outerwear trend is a trend that American/European fashion bloggers have made me yearn for – all I want in this life is a camel longer-length coat – and the androgynous shoe vibe is a classy addition to the look. It was also pretty apt how a model was even wearing Air Maxes on Nike’s Air Max Day.
It was also really cool to meet and catch up with fashion friends from Joburg and Cape Town alike – events like these can feel really intimidating if you don’t know anyone, but you’d actually be surprised at how nice fashion people really are.
So, in conclusion, to make your Tumblr-slash-Lookbook-Winter-Fashion-Ready look a reality, Spree is where you need to be this winter.
P.S. – how cool are the animals wearing paper Miu Miu sunglasses?
