Today I Went To…

Today I Went To…
Well, actually, I went to Sandton City but going to Topshop might have made me the happiest. Their collections never seem to disappoint – well, at least not me (my mom went in before me and left about five minutes later because there “wasn’t much in there”). So I thought I could share a few of my favourite winter picks from the store (except the accessories and shoes, if I had the chance to fully engage with them, I would still be there now). Also, one should never underestimate the value of a mirror selfie.
Before I do, though, here’s what I wore today:
Shirt from H&M London, Leather Jacket from Yeye Oge Morningside, Leggings from Woolworths, Boots from Topshop
Now to begin with my absolute favourite – this jersey/top with Sugarhill Gang’s Rapper’s Delight lyrics on it.

So excited to see that Topshop SA now has disco pants!
Need this denim skater skirt!

I also went to Cotton On today and bought this beautiful jacket and a new sweater, because sweater weather is better weather and when Joburg finally decides to have a legitimate winter, I need to be prepared.

(To all those writing exams – like I am about to begin on Monday – good luck!!)

The Creators Of Class (Chanel)

The Creators Of Class (Chanel)

I believe that Chanel created class, and for that, they’re one of my favourite brands/fashion houses ever. At Paris Fashion Week, Karl Lagerfeld debuted the Spring-Summer 2013 line and it gave me such a vintage feel – quoting Examiner.com, It seems as though Karl Lagerfeld has somehow channeled Coco Chanel for this collection and stayed true to her original ideas on what her fashion line should look like.”

The fashion show took place at the Grand Palais in Paris yesterday and how magnificent is this venue? There’s one item I just want to draw your attention to before we look further into the ready-to-wear collection – it’s the bag. Below is King Karl himself modelling the exorbitant Chanel bag, and below that is the bag on the runway. I don’t know how to describe it other than it’s extremely large.

Moving on swiftly, back to the collection. The shoes, as you can see above and on a lot of the other models, are quite bold and stocky but they make it work. It’s an interesting design – it’s as if it was this close to becoming a pair of wedges – but I like it.

These outfits above feature a lot of tweed, and it’s clear to see that this collection has a variety of fabrics used in it. The garments have a very retro and vintage look to them, I can imagine people like Twiggy wearing this.

Here, again, we can see the rage in colours and materials (the top left includes some leather) and a complete change in shoes to a more classy and simple kitten heel. I, personally, am not the greatest fan of the kitten heel but I feel that it suits this classier look and the pearls add to the era-piece.

These outfits seem to remind me a bit of Jackie O – the little blazers have off a kind of woman-in-power vibe.

Now can we briefly discuss how amazing the above right outfit is? The dress is just so intricately made and even the bold jewelry doesn’t overpower it. King Karl did it again.

Having A Tall Day

Having A Tall Day

As a teenage girl of 5’9″, I own a few pairs of heels but naturally, I find it very difficult to find an appropriate situation in which to wear them. But every now and then, I feel the urge to feel my feet hurt. I feel the urge to tower over people and to be 6’1″. Just for fun. Today was one of those days – I was merely milling around Nicolway Shopping Centre with my mom and enjoying a lovely breakfast at the Food Lovers Cafe (I highly recommend it – beyond amazing!) in my mustard suede wedges and I loved every moment of it.

What Am I Wearing?

  • A necklace from Lovisa
  • A white tank top from Mr Price
  • A blazer stolen from my mothers closet
  • A ring that was a gift
  • Jeans from Primark in London (tall section, whoop whoop)
  • A handbag from a flee market
  • Wedge booties from New Look in London

The necklace was actually a purchase from today’s venture to Nicolway – there’s a Lovisa in the centre and they’re having a lush sale – including a 3 for R100 sale! If it wasn’t for my large fingers that make ring shopping traumatising, I would’ve bought more. My booties below are my pride and joy (other than my Steves) and I honestly wish I could wear this colour more often so I could wear my shoes more often 🙁

Have a lovely day and have a lovely week!

Versace Spring Summer 2013

Versace Spring Summer 2013

In Milan Fashion Week, Donatella Versace showcased the Spring Summer 2013 collection and I personally think it was feminine with some sass and a little edge.

In this collection, we see a lot of lace (starting out with this lovely camel-tan shade). The fabrics and textures are mixed to create a really eclectic collection. Lace seems to be a common thread throughout the show, though – if not being used as a major part in the ensemble, it’s used as embellishments and details on the garments. Also, different types of lace are being used with different shapes and patterns on them.

The entire Versace show was colour-blocked – it started out with the camel, then it moved into the beige (both of these with the definite black lace embellishments), then into the more summery blues and oranges. As the colour changes, the mood of the collection changes too – it becomes lighter because the garments are now more chiffon based.

The concept for the heels seems to be kept constant throughout the show – all of the shoes have straps above the ankle for more of an edgier look.

The garments all seem to have low necklines in common – with the chiffon dresses having those and cut out portions as well as the high slits too.

My personal favourite dress is the light orange chiffon dress (above picture, the one on the right). I think it’s feminine and very spring-summery. Donatella did it again!

Fashion Friday: Alexa Chung

Fashion Friday: Alexa Chung

I know it’s been a while since I’ve shown myself on the blogosphere, but here I am again with another (long overdue) Fashion Friday. Today, I have chosen the ever quirky (a word I am smitten with) Alexa Chung.

The hippie-indie-chic model, presenter and British Vogue contributing editor has a completely unique style that has been copied by every other hippie-indie-chic person in the world. I’m in love with her effortless style, her simple make-up and another word I can use to describe her: her whimsy.

In an interview with Stylist.co.uk, Alexa described her go-to style inspirations as Mick Jagger, Kurt Cobain, Jane Birkin and Françoise Hardy. Her favourite fashion city (which we have in common, which basically makes us best friends) is London and she is a firm believer of wearing what you want and what suits you.

Alexa is also known for her casual, boyish style – including her affinity towards cardigans and boots. Even if she isn’t crazy about trends, she sure does know how to start them. I love her style, her staple tousled short hair and neutral make-up. A true style icon.

Follow Alexa Chung on Twitter for more quirk and whimsy!
