what time is it?

SUMMERTIME! IT’S MY VACATION!

hello everyone! with exams (and grade 11 – eek) done and dusted, it gives me great pleasure to be able to devote my attention to my blog again. i have about four draft posts that i started but due to the ever-looming presence of exams, i never got to finish or post.

but alas, i am officially on holiday until the middle of january so i hope to be posting more 🙂 i give to you (above) my first official holiday selfie, flower crown and all because its, you know, summer and whatever. my eyebrow game is not as strong as it should be, but i’ve been a bit preoccupied, okayyy? (i’ve also decided to include some music in my posts. why not)

this is also a very mini outfit post because after taking these selfies, i went to a little ‘pool party’ with my friends (i say ‘pool party’ because the weather was too overcast for me to even consider wearing shorts to the shindig) and it was a very chilled and very nice way to break in the holidays.

happy belated thanksgiving, by the way! even though i’m not american and don’t celebrate the holiday, i’m still really grateful for my friends, family, and particularly to God for getting me through these exams – rough doesn’t even begin to describe them. many tears were shed.

anywhooo, enjoy the rest of the weekend 🙂

p.s., i’m thinking of changing up my blog (again, sigh, i know) but this time it includes changing hosts to wordpress. are there any wordpress users out there who recommend it? i have a really irrational attachment to google friend connect but i found out you can still follow wordpress blogs on gfc so you can still keep up with me, but i’m just not sure if i should… any help?

dear solo is going on a little hiatus

you know how they say, “it’s easier to ask for forgiveness than permission?
i’m doing neither. i’m just letting you know.

because i’m in grade 11 and this set of exams is pretty darn important, my blog is going to be the least of my worries at the moment. what will be the most of my worries? well, physics, chemistry, maths, ad maths, accounting… you get the picture.

i will post when i post, but i make no promises. this is just an explanation as to why i won’t be posting: i’m trying to get an education. lol

good luck to everyone else who will be writing exams, especially to the matrics who are writing their finals (YAAASSSSS!!!), the varsity students who have just a few left, etc etc. if i don’t update in that long, happy thanksgiving to the americans who read this blog 🙂

thanks for understanding!

what’s scarier than… candy crush?

happy belated halloween and stuff! seeing as i don’t actually celebrate the holiday and usually just do group dress-up for school civvies days, the fact that it was thursday evening and i hadn’t actually planned an outfit got me all shook up. because, like… what was i gonna do?

i really wanted to be wednesday adams – buuuut i accidentally gave my wednesday adams-esque dress up dress away to charity. and i desperately wanted to be 50 shades of grey using paint strips, buuuut i didn’t plan it out (and tanya beat me to it, so it actually all worked out). and i refused to be a cat. so, with the theme being ‘lonehill horror story’, i was casually playing candy crush and then i was just like – what’s scarier and more horrifying than a level you’ve been stuck on for a month. (i would know – it’s happened to be 3 times.) and alas, here we are, with about six pages of printed candies and 21 odd safety pins. diy. lol

people really committed this year, too – they came as minions (yellow paint and all), boys came as babies (diapers and all) and boys came as girls (leggings and crop tops and all), there were some dear nurses, seven dwarves, fairies, sailors, superheroes and zombies, it was overall pretty intense.

🙂

white dress and sunday bests

i was thinking of doing an october month summary because quite a bit has happened that has just remained undocumented. crunch time at school and stuff – you pick your battles.

even though i do actually where dresses and sometimes i wear heels (the whole being tall thing, you know), yesterday, people found it considerably surprising that i wore both together. comments like “wow! you look so pretty today” and an unusual amount of  “you look so nice”s hit me right in the self esteem because how does that mean i look every other day of my life 🙁 🙁 🙁 ??? i also got asked if i was going to a confirmation that day. who know a white dress on a sunday would cause such commotion?
moving on though. it has been a busy week and a busy month, with the most important exams of my life steadily approaching and me doing little to aid it but whatever, i thought i should blog this outfit instead of study. priorities.
what i wore:
  • dress from edgars (biggest dilemma of my life – white or black???)
  • shoes from truworths
  • watch from avon
  • my oh-so-not-celine celine bag from my mother
i am also very happy to have my braids back – i missed them so much 🙁
side note: you are very welcome to skip the very last photo of this blog post. it’s of my feet *shrugs*.
have a great week and stuff, though! 🙂

alt-j? alt-YAY

if you remember a current obsession post i did back in july (woah), you’ll remember that i was (and still am) obsessed with alt-j. i also mentioned that they’ll be playing in south africa at vodacom in the city in joburg and rocking the daisies in cape town, and i was extremely blessed to have gotten the opportunity to witness it go down last friday night at mary fitzgerald square in newtown. i didn’t bring my canon with me, so all the photos i took were either with my little sony camera or my iphone, and i didn’t mind at all – i was way too busy dancing.

al bairre was an incredible opener – a true showcase of local talent! shout-out to the twins playing the cello and violin (and keyboard and bass guitar): you girls are my heroes. epitome of awesome. and the hives after alt-j were seriously the biggest jam. i left the crowd after alt-j finished (curse you tiny bladder) but even in the midst of being in the courtyard, i danced my heart out. by myself. to go right ahead.

basically, i danced as hard as i could and nearly got my phone stolen by a very silly man who makes a horrible thief (if i can take my phone out of your hand after you steal it, chances are, you’re not doing it right.) but every time i think about hearing fitzpleasure live, it was completely worth it. besides, there are only a handful of places where i get to dress full-hipster so i indulged (you can see my full outfit here).

so lemme even discuss alt-j now. from intro into fitzpleasure (my favourite song, btw) bloodflood, matilda, something good, taro, tesselate, buffalo, and then to end it off with breezeblocks. you’ve never heard me sing “PLEASE DON’T GO! I’LL EAT YOU WHOLE! I LOVE YOU SO! I LOVE YOU SO I LOVE YOU SO!” so loud – i might’ve broken the sound barrier. they were literally perfect. literally. it was like listening to the cd, except live, and so much better. they are one of those bands who are just incredible live. they work in perfect harmony.

i posted a few videos on my instagram if you want to see! (fun/sad fact: my phone memory filled up that night so i tried to delete other videos to make space, and accidentally deleted the fitzpleasure video. i nearly cried)

but above and beyond that, the biggest of thanks goes out to seed experiences and vodacom for making vodacom in the city possible for me and other music enthusiasts!

and thanks to my friends and everyone else who made it a fun night. thanks for dancing with me 🙂
